Any time someone buys a home for sale in South Lake Tahoe, there are usually some changes they look forward to making upon move in. A lot of the times, these things fall in line with looks or décor, however, there are some practical things you should do before getting completely settled into your South Lake Tahoe real estate. Your South Lake Tahoe Realtor will be able to weigh in on this a little more but here are some tips to get your started.
- Change the locks
This is a safety first type task. Whether you trust the sellers or not, whenever you buy homes for sale in South Lake Tahoe, you should always rekey the doors or replace the locks. You have no idea how many people have copies of the keys to your new home.
- Deep clean the floors.
Of course a cleaner can be negotiated in to the closing details, however, a lot of times, they are not. Which means that before you start moving things in, vacuum and shampoo the carpets or the hardwoods. If your flooring is a little more high maintenance, make sure that you know how to clean your new floors without ruining the finish.
- While you are it, just deep clean.
The sellers may have kept it looking nice and neat during showings, but it is a good rule of thumb to do a deep clean on homes for sale in South Lake Tahoe once they have sold. Everyone has a different lifestyle that could involve pets, outdoor activities and more. By cleaning out the cabinets, cupboards, counters, windows, dusting, etc. you ensure the new start in your new home is off to a good, clean one.
- Change all the batteries in the alarms.
These types of things may not seem like a pressing issue during the hustle and bustle of moving but they should be. Once it is pushed to the wayside and forgotten, it could be too late when there is a fire or a carbon monoxide leak. Handle it upon move in so you can rest easy knowing all alarms are working as they should.
- Create some extra storage.
If you need storage and that is something your new South Lake Tahoe real estate doesn’t have a ton of, create it. Add in more shelves in closets or storage units so that when you unpack, your new space doesn’t feel cluttered.
