Bijou 1 & 2/Glenwood
The Bijou/Glenwood neighborhoods of South Lake Tahoe encompass an area that stretches from the shores of Lake Tahoe to the base of Heavenly . Bordered by meadows and mountains this diverse area is rich in “Old Tahoe” history and lore especially in the Bijou “Old Tahoe” district where many of the properties date to around the turn of the last century (1900) and some well before that. It has been said that the notorious Black Bart encamped there one long and snowy winter before leaving in the spring for the gold camps and another murderous summer of robbing and killing! Today the area is a huge mix of old and new properties with local families being the primary occupants of these homes(70%) with a smaller amount of second home occupants (30%) Bijou Elementary school is at the heart of the Bijou/Glenwood neighborhood as is the stunning Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC). LTCC has become one of the premiere community colleges in California and the setting is world class! Adjacent to the college acres and acres of public land some of which has been developed into parks including a skate and dog park, a world class Frisbee golf course and miles of open areas in which to explore.
Homes in the Bijou/Glenwood neighborhoods run the gamut from small “Old Tahoe” cabins to larger and more contemporary homes that have been recently built. Currently the median and average price points for this area range in $352,000-$385,000.
